Stage I (not shown): no pubic hair- prepubertal. Stage 2: sparse, long, dark, slightly cured hair on the labia; this stage may be subtle. Stage 3: hair is darker, coarser and curlier, and spreads over the mons pubis. Stage 4: hair is adult in type but does not spread to the thighs. Stage 5: the adult inverse triangle distribution is reached, with spread to the medial surface of the thighs occurring.
